How We started Our blog

Darielle: Starting a blog was something I had been planning to do long before I bought Dante, but to be honest I was half petrified to start! I was essentially re-training a 4 year old before I had Dante and when the sale fell through I was raging I didn’t write everything down that I learned along the way.

In October, both Orla & myself bought our horses within a day of each other, and after running the idea of starting a blog about our journey with them past her, she without hesitation said yes. And with that a few months later we became No Bucking Way! (Yes, it took us ages to figure out what we were going to call ourselves!)

Orla: I have to say, I was delighted Darielle agreed to let me come on board with the blog. Writing was always a form of therapeutic release for me and I’ve used it so many times to help me clear my head of thoughts and worries. So after deciding to take the plunge to buy not only my first horse but a youngster, I figured this would be a great way for me to keep track of my progress with Coco while also giving me a reason to take a few minutes to think about what we’ve achieved or learned each week.

Darielle: Orla has previously done some writing before & with her marketing background we set up our website! She did ban me from some of the technical behind the scenes things as every second night I would be texting her thinking I broke the website because of certain settings I was going into & buttons I shouldn’t of pressed!

Orla: Yes, being a bit of a computer nerd, I can turn into a slight control freak when it comes to the technical side of things so we decided it might be best to just let me deal with the build and design of the website. While I was busy with that, Darielle was the genius who came up with our fantastic blog name so she then took on the design of our logo too which came out so well and definitely inspired the colour scheme of the website (can’t you tell!?)

Darielle: We started this blog for those who found themselves in the same shoes as us. Training in a young horse is hard work & there really is no manual or step by step guide anyone can get that tells you how to do it. Every young horse is different & the techniques that work on one horse might not work on another. Coco & Dante are polar opposites to each other in nearly every way, so we both found ourselves having completely different experiences with our horses! Its quite cool to read each others posts, and I think its safe to say we are both constantly learning & picking up tips & tricks from each other for our horses!

Orla: One thing that we did say before we started our blog, was that we found it really difficult to find information online that was specific to young horses. So we wanted our blog to be a one stop shop for all things young horses in the hope that other people will share their own experiences with their youngsters.

Darielle: For the moment we are really taking this day by day & learning as we go along. We’re both on the same journey, only that our horses provide completely different experiences and stories so our readers get so many view points into how to bring on a young horse, including the good & the bad!!

Our advice for new bloggers

Darielle: If anyone was looking for advice on how to start up a blog, well my advice would be to just go for it. Nothing will ever be wrong about anything you write, your posts will reach someone if its one person or 101!

Orla: Write what you know. This is something that was drilled into me years ago. Your best writing will come from your own knowledge and experience. Whether it’s a full 1000 word post on your first time owning a horse or a simple paragraph about what you did yesterday, you will never write anything more interesting than what you’ve experienced.
