Our Bucking Adventures

6 Top Horse Adventure Destinations

We had so much interest and suggestions from you guys with places to visit with our horses, we decided to compile a list of our Top 6 locations.

Hopefully we can plan a visit to each place over the next few months, to give them all a try for ourselves, see what the hype is all about. We really did struggle with finding locations, so thank you to our readers for the suggestions.

Have a read below to see who made the cut!

Donard

Famously known for their monthly ride out through the Wicklow mountains. So you are aware it is a lengthy ride, being 2-3 hours long. They cover fields, forests, roads you name it! Near the end of the ride out you can test your horse’s bravery & jumping skills with a field with a number of fun jumps to suit all levels. The cost is €25 per person, you must bring your own horse, they don’t supply horses! To all you students out there they have a student rate of €10, this is the same rate for children.

Corballis Farm

Based in Donabate in Co. Dublin, this is definately somewhere any adventurist should think about bringing their horse. You can of course bring your own horse, but you have to join in on one of their planned ride outs, these are accompanied by one of their qualified instructors. As the ride outs are based around the tide of the sea, they are normally early starts with the advanced ride out at 9.30am starts on a Saturday. On Sunday’s they have ride outs on every 2nd Sunday of the month at 11am & 12.30pm The lovely Lisa who owns the property is very accommodating, if you have any questions do give her a ring. Places are limited, so pre – booking is essential!

The Field

A venue that offers everything, literally. Located in Co. Laois the venue offers a number of schooling facilities, from Showjumping clinics, dressage clinics & of course their all weather Cross country tracks, you would be a fool not to visit. And yes we here at NBW are one of those fools as we are still yet to visit. They offer a rate of €25 to use their facilities, pre booking is essential especially on days where they are hosting clinics. “A place where horses come to have fun” What a motto to live by, to get in contact with them or to book, it must be done through their facebook page.

Carlanstown

Well this just seems to be the Cross Country venue to beat! No matter who we speak to, everyone suggests this venue. We have been unfortunate not have visited here already, but early spring we have a plan, just you wait and see! Located in Kells, Co. Meath the venue itself is quite accommodating, with it only being €15 to bring your horse, they also offer tea/coffee facilities, who can say no to that! With such a massive array of jumps, and all weather surfaces this venue should be top of the list if you are an aspiring eventer, they cater to riders of all levels with a jump for everyone! To book in you must do so via Brendan on their facebook page.

The Munny Trail

Based in between Carlow & the Wicklow mountains, I visited this magical venue in Summer 2017, and wow what a place! Not only can you camp over night with your horse, you have the option of two different trail rides, the yellow & the red route. If you dare to find it, there is also a pub you can visit with your beloved horse! The prices are extremely affordable not only for the use of their trails which have some amazing jumps, forests, corn fields, a stream & some stunning views to take in, but their overnight packages for a glamour night of glamping with your four legged friend are quite appealing. Check them out, and give Belinda a ring she is a lady, not to forget her ever so helpful husband!

Abbeyfield Farm

I feel like this venue is quite the hidden gem. Famously know as“Charlie O’Neil’s” for anyone around the Kildare area, it certainly is a venue that I feel is forgotten about. They offer daily ride outs at 10am catering for your own horse or the use of one of theirs. With massive ground to cover, they also have a variety of XC jumps around the grounds, from tyres to water jump to banks & coffins, there is something for all levels when it comes to horse or rider. The gents who run the venue are very heavily involved, at least one of them assists with the daily ride outs & are always up great chats.

Until Next Time,
