There were a lot of ups & downs during our preparations for our One Day Event, the week prior consisted of a lot if headless humans running around the yard, setting out Dressage arenas, setting up jumps, to lessons with Jer to prepare!
I purposely waited this long to talk about it as it has taken this long for his treatments to (hopefully) work & come to an end and I have finally built up the courage to write about it & to fearfully post the horrific pictures of what was attached to him.
Over the past few months, he has really matured & quietened down in most elements of his work, I wont lie sometimes he still has his moments, but he is giving me so much more leeway
The woodchip was a lot deeper so the horses had to work themselves a lot more through it. With the woodchip gallops, The horses had to work themselves up to the top of a hill before we finished off by letting them walk back
He was bulldozing around the arena, his head 10 foot up in the air with a massive snotty head on him, but at the same time he knew he had the power, he was thoroughly enjoying himself jumping all the fences at his own pace and on his own terms....
When it comes to bonding with your horse “bonding techniques” would be a term I would throw around loosely. Sometimes getting to know each other & gaining each others respect and trust can be the start of a blossoming relationship! I have listed a few things below....
At the end of our physio session, Ruth asked to check Dante’s Saddle again. The first time she had suggested I get a new one as she felt it didn’t sit properly in behind his withers. But to my delight.....
Dante is not like any other horse I have ridden before. He is so sensitive at the mouth & to be honest until you ride Dante, you wont understand what I really mean! I ride him in a snaffle bit, and although some people may suggest using a stronger bit on him for more control, I disagree..
Two weeks ago Orla & myself set out a plan, we thought it was finally about time we got both horses out and about & actually start doing productive schooling with them.
